Pluto is a work of fiction told across different digital devices and platforms that incorporates an immersive video game world.
In the story, John, a computer engineer, inherits a collection of arcane objects from Mo, his Aunt, who found them in an abandoned factory in the North in the 1960s. Over time, John and his daughter Charlotte begin to realise that the objects have unusual physical properties – and that the more they are exposed to them, the more their realities and memories appear to change.
The Pluto narrative suggests the existence of beautiful but fragile parallel realities, or universes, which can also be interpreted as an exploration of the psychological states of the central characters. Readers/players will be encouraged to effectively piece together how these character identities jigsaw in tandem with what appear to be quantum shifts in the Pluto world. Audiences experience the work across multiple platforms, from ctional social media character profiles through digital journals, imagery and video sequences, to a rich and deeply layered 3D game. This Pluto version on display for the ICIDS audience is a special demo version of the game world only. Pluto is slated for mainstream release in late 2016.
